WORK in Focus, September @ Dochia
“The individual who says it is not possible should move out of the way of those doing it.” Tricia Cunningham
September 2021 \\ in FOCUS at Dochia \\ WORK
What is work? When is the last time you've asked yourself this? When you do, the fist thing that comes to mind is "job". But if job equals work, how come so many other things we do also feel like work? Everything relating to maintaining a home, health, a certain lifestyle can all be experienced as work.
In physics "work" means the "energy transferred to or from an object via the application of force along a displacement" (from good old wikipedia)
Some other definitions include:
"to function or operate according to plan or design"
In fact, in the Merriam Webster Dictionary there are 24 entries for the word with multiple distinct definitions each: 19 for verb, 12 for noun and 3 for adjective.
Think about it! It is confusing enough having two-three definitions for one word. But 24 altogether? How can you use the word in common language and ensure that person you talk to understands it exactly the way you intended its use? Communication is based on this necessity yet with this word in particular it seems to be very difficult to use it. Everyone just goes to the "job" limiting any other kind dialogue on the subject.
This month we will look at how we can shape our homes differently by taking a different stance as to what work is. By allowing the concept to be understood as the art of making, of willing into existing, and maintaining the things we have. We often forget when we buy things that in themselves, like everything we collect, those things are work. Work is not only the job. Equating work with job is a new, modern concept.
Stay tuned to learn more about a holistic approach to Work and it's benefits!
